Digital Hive Mind, a Rockford-based advertising and creative agency, has developed and executed a multi-month comedic video campaign for Forest City Gear, blending technical storytelling with absurdist humor to spotlight the company’s advanced manufacturing capabilities.
The campaign, initiated in the lead-up to the 2025 Motion + Power Technology Expo, features a series of short-form promotional videos inspired by Monty Python-style comedy. Digital Hive Mind led the full creative process, including concepting, scripting, production, and posting.
Each video pairs real engineering insight with exaggerated physical comedy, using contrast as the central device. Forest City Gear employees Jake Childers and Anthony Krutza star in the series, forming a comedic duo: Childers plays the grounded, technical “straight man,” while Krutza disrupts each scene with visual gags, punchlines, and physical humor.
The result is a campaign that translates complex capabilities into memorable, shareable moments—without losing sight of the technical message.
Campaign Highlights:
- A robotics-focused short where Childers explains automation capabilities as Krutza “demonstrates” by dancing like a robot
- An aerospace parody set on a commercial jet, riffing on Snakes on a Plane, with Krutza as a disruptive passenger interrupting Childers’ technical explanation
- An outer space vignette where Childers outlines space-grade manufacturing while Krutza enters the shop floor with a lit rocket, escalating the scene into chaos
- A Western-style standoff complete with cowboy hats, fake mustaches, and holsters, in which both actors mime a duel over spur gear expertise
Forest City Gear has long stood out in the gear manufacturing landscape for their willingness to take risks integrating humor into their advertising. This campaign brings that classic Forest City Gear formula, known and loved in the industry for decades, and ramps that up to the next level.
Across each scenario, humor serves as the entry point, keeping the focus on Forest City Gear’s precision, range, and technical expertise.
Released in phases over several months, the videos were designed to build awareness and engagement ahead of Forest City Gear’s presence at the 2025 Motion + Power Technology Expo, reinforcing both general brand awareness and targeted technical expertise.
